Quest for women Empowerment 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act and 24th April 1992. Its implementation

According to Kumar and Rani Empowerment of women “means” empowering women socially, economically and culturally so that they can break away from male domination and claim equality with them.” No doubt there was some empowerment of women in villages and some became Pardhan. But this had in many cases no impact because women were mostly illiterate and could not go against the wishes or directions of their husbands or ‘netas’ of the village.

Empowerment of women had sociological impact. It would affect the social fabric of family. It will take tens of years till the women are educated in villages and slums of the cities to be able to exercise their right of equality with men. Even that can not be cent percent as if even all the women get educated like men, for the welfare of children and harmony in family many women will continue to obey their husbands and not revolt as if they are equal and not subordinate or inferior to men.
